6. The “Lantern Box” Tabletop Centerpiece
Sometimes you don’t need a tall lantern; a long, rectangular lantern box works perfectly as a centerpiece for a long dining table. It keeps the decor low enough for conversation while adding a beautiful, warm light source.
How to Make
Use one long piece of cedar or pine. Create a long box structure using thin strips to define the sides. Use a spacing jig—like a small block of wood—to ensure your vertical slats are placed at perfectly consistent intervals. Stain the wood a dark color for a sophisticated feel. Because the box is long, you can place three or four smaller LED candles inside for a balanced, glowing light that spans the entire center of your table.
Things Needed
- 1×4 pine or cedar board
- Thin wood lattice strips
- Wood glue
- Spacing block
- Dark walnut stain
- Multiple LED tea light candles
