6. Resin and Pressed Flower Bookends
Resin bookends turn small keepsakes — pressed wildflowers, petals from a bouquet, even a scrap of lace — into something you can look at every day. Clear resin blocks are dense enough to hold a modest row of books, and the finished surface has a glassy depth that is hard to copy with any other material.
Materials:
- Epoxy resin kit with separate resin and hardener
- Silicone mold in a square or arch shape
- Pressed flowers, leaves, or dried petals
- Nitrile gloves, mixing cups, stir sticks
- Heat gun or small torch for bubbles
- Felt pads
How to make them: Work in a well-ventilated space and wear gloves. Mix resin and hardener exactly according to the package instructions, stirring slowly for the full recommended time. Pour a thin base layer into the mold and let it set until tacky, then arrange your flowers face down. Pour a second layer to cover, run a heat gun briefly over the surface to release bubbles, and let the block cure fully before unmolding.
Time: 30 minutes of active work, plus a full day of curing. Difficulty: intermediate. Resin rewards careful measuring and punishes rushing.
